Discover what’s new in Maplix Studio 1.0.3!

Hello March 2021, hello new Maplix Studio release.

At Maplix, we do not stand still, and continuously work on improving our application. And yes, we started 2021 with a lot of inspiration for our platform. Although many of our ideas are still under development, we can already release a bunch of them to you today. You may have already noticed it when working on your surveys today: Maplix Studio has some new features. To make your life easier, and enable you to create even better surveys for your citizens. Win-win!

More drawing style options

More options, more fun, better data, right? Get creative and add arrows, dashed lines, circles or your own custom icons to your draw interactions.

We have extended the styling options for all geometry types. A default point geometry is now a circle with a border, of which the size and color are fully customizable. You can also choose our default marker, or to upload your own icon. Lines can now also be drawn as arrows or as (multi-colored) dashed lines. With an arrow line, you have the options to display the arrow icon in the middle of each line segment, or at the end of the line. Dashed lines can have one of four different dash types, and can contain two colors, or you can choose to set the dash color to fully transparent to create a single-color dashed line. The same options of the lines also apply to the borders of polygons, which is now also separated from the fill color. Try them out yourself, it’s fun!

Walking and cycling base map

Bye car-oriented maps, hello walking and cycling maps! Show more detail in rural areas, and take your mobility project to the next level with our new Outdoors base map.

This new base map highlights trails, paths, pistes and dirt roads, and shows the most relevant points of interest for outdoor activities. Besides this, the base map also shows elevation and land cover in more detail, especially in parks, forests and other natural areas.

Better route visualization

The difference between a regular line and a route on the map? A route snaps automatically to the road, and we now also give you the opportunity to display the transport mode chosen by the respondent on the route segments. This makes it much easier for the respondent to elaborate on different segments of the route.

But what happens if we zoom out? Or what about routes with a lot of small segments? Don’t worry, we got you covered. The visualization of the transport mode takes both the length of the segment and the zoom level of the map into account, so the map never becomes too cluttered. Clear as a bell!

Copy your questions

Time is precious. We know that better than anyone. Do you want to ask a question again? Maybe on a different page? Or for every drawing interaction? Don’t re-type everything!

Simply click the copy button of the question you want to copy. Next to the ‘Create new question’ button, you will then find a dropdown where you can paste the question and all its options. Everything, except the question logic, will then already be filled in. Now there is time left for an extra cup of coffee ☕ !

Paste the copied question across different interactions

Hello e-bike!

With Maplix, you are able to ask respondents to draw routes on the map, that snap automatically to the road segments. For every segment, the respondent can choose a transport mode. With the e-bike on the rise, the distinction between a bike and an e-bike as a mode of transport can therefore produce interesting results in mobility research.

Combined with the extended visualization option as mentioned before, this brings the data quality of your research to the next level!
